While that might be the case, so many of our favorite bands rep themselves and reference themselves in their lyrics, we thought we'd take a look at the different strategies performers enlisted to define themselves, describe themselves and make their mark.

Monkees

'Theme From The Monkees,' The Monkees

"Hey, hey, we're the Monkees" states it as plainly as possible. No threats or bombastic boasts from these boys, who were talent scouted to be in a TV show about a fictional rock group. From their early example, musicians learned that the first thing you need to be a band is a song about being a band. And top-flight producers and songwriters, worldwide casting calls and a prime time slot don't hurt, either.

Morrissey's Liverpool Echo Arena show will now not be rescheduled, organisers have confirmed. The singer walked off stage at the venue only two songs into his headlining set on Nov. 7 after a drink, thrown from the crowd, hit him on the side of the head.

It was initially hoped that the date would be rescheduled in the near future but show promoters have now said that they are "unable" to do so. In a statement they said, "The event organisers have been unable to reschedule the Morrissey concert. As previously notified, refunds will be available to all customers who purchased tickets from authorised outlets. Where possible customers will be notified directly by email."

Les Savy Fav Play New Track on 'Yo Gabba Gabba'

Art-punk pranksters Les Savy Fav have premiered their first new material since 2008's digital-only live album 'After the Balls Drop' on kids' TV show 'Yo Gabba Gabba.'

A one-minute, 15-second celebration of the joy of having new footwear, the song 'Shoes' provides the soundtrack to a short animation on the hyperactive Nickelodeon show. You can watch it after the jump.

Featuring the lyrics, "Shiny and clean, they're my favourite colour green, my new pair of shoes," the song is something of a giddy treat for fans awaiting new material from the band.
